Artist Kit Company started in a Harlem kitchen at 3 a.m., when a makeup artist cut, taped and built the first prototype of a palette that didn’t exist yet — because none of the ones on the market felt right.
What began as a personal experiment became an obsession with precision, simplicity and purpose.
During lockdown, each piece was assembled by hand — magnets placed one by one, pins inserted, palettes packed, orders counted. There was no team, no warehouse, no investors. Just time, focus, and the belief that something better could be made.
On launch day, June 2020, Artist Kit Company went live. Within an hour, the entire first production run was sold out.
Today, AKC remains a one-person operation — designed, inspected, packed and shipped from New York City.
The goal hasn’t changed:
to build tools that disappear in your hand, so your work — not your gear — takes center stage.
Because true design doesn’t shout. It serves.
