Skin Illustrator wurde vom preisgekrönten Maskenbildner Kenny Myers gegründet. Kenny Myers hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, eine größtmögliche Farbpalette zu entwickeln, die Maskenbildnern das Anmischen von Farben am Set überflüssig machen und die Arbeit zu vereinfachen. Die Skin Illustrator Linie entwickelt sich stetig weiter und passt sich den heutigen künstlerischen Bedürfnissen der TV- und Filmindustrie an.
Im Jahr 2000 schlossen sich CMI / Skin Illustrator und Premiere Products Inc. zusammen, um Skin Illustrator weltweit verfügbar zu machen.
Mit den Skin Illustrator Farbpaletten sind nahezu alle Make-up Effekte umsetzbar. So entwickelte Kenny Mayers zu bestimmten Themen unzählige Farbpaletten wie beispielsweise "FX", "Buffie", "The Grunge" oder "Dirt". Die Skin Illustrator Farbvariationen sind kompakte Paletten und machen Touch-ups im Gesicht oder am Körper schnell und einfach. Die Farben können verwendet werden, um beispielsweise einen Makel im Gesicht zu bedecken oder um besondere Effekte herauszuarbeiten wie Schmutz, Blutergüsse, Wunden oder kleine Schnitte.
Die Farben können leicht mit einem Pinsel angewandt werden. Dabei kann die Farbe pur oder auch mit anderen Farben gemischt werden. Um die satten Farbpigmente zu aktivieren, muss der Skin Illustrator Activator, Skin Illustrator Slow Activator oder 99 % Alkohol verwendet werden.
Neben den bekannten Farbpaletten ist Skin Illustrator unter anderem auch bekannt für ihr künstliches Blut. Zum Portfolio gehören "Drying Blood Fresh" und "Drying Blood Dark". Das Filmblut wurde speziell für HD-Produktionen entwickelt und wird den Ansprüchen der heutigen Produktionen gerecht. Es eignet sich sowohl für den Körper als auch für die Requisite und Kostüme. Auch im trockenen Zustand wirkt es feucht. Es bleibt dort, wo es platziert wurde und ist wischfest. Dieses künstliche Blut sollte ausschließlich äußerlich verwendet werden.
